About IHSA.
The Equestrian Team of Cal State Fullerton is a member of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA), Zone 8, Region 2. IHSA is an organization that encompasses 29 regions in 9 zones, with more than 300 member colleges in 45 states and Canada in Hunt-Seat Equitation, Western Horsemanship, and Reining. IHSA emphasizes learning, sportsmanship, and fun, promoting competition for riders of all skill levels to compete individually and as teams.
IHSA significantly reduces student expense by removing the need to own a horse to compete. Instead, students ride horses provided by the participating colleges, and horses are chosen by drawing names. The use of personal tack is not allowed, and schooling of provided horses is not allowed.
Full-time undergraduate students of member colleges and alumni are eligible to compete. Riders qualify for higher classes and divisions through a point system: Throughout the year, contestants accumulate points at local shows based on ribbon placement. For Regionals, the top three riders of every class move up to Zones. At Zones finals, the top two of each class move up and qualify for nationals.
