Frequently Asked Questions.
Do I have to own my own horse to join?
|
No! You do not have to own your own horse to enjoy any benefits of our team. Our alumnus trainer provides her own horses for lessons and barn days, and all participating schools bring horses and tack to the shows, where riders draw names to determine which horse they will ride for each class. This is the perfect setting to learn to ride, since you can take advantage of riding multiple horses.

Do I have to know how to ride to join?
|
No! We welcome people of all experience levels. You don't need any experience at all! Our trainer welcomes beginners, and will teach you everything you need to know in order to be safe both on and around a horse. We love to introduce any horse lover to these wonderful animals - even if you've never even actually touched one!
In addition, IHSA competitions include a beginner (walk-trot/walk-jog) level for new riders. As long as you are dedicated to learning to ride, you're welcome to compete! |
Where do you Stable your horses and Have lessons?
|
Cal State Fullerton does not have an equestrian facility on campus.
Scheduling lessons is an individual responsibility, but we always love to lesson together |
I already have my own trainer, and take lessons elsewhere. Do i have to switch to the team coach?
|
No! Our coach may want to have a lesson with you before each show, but you are not required to train with the team coach!
|
Can I use or bring my own horse?
|
CSUF does not have a stable on campus; most of our riders go to a local barn to train. you can find stabling for your horse locally but full board is required.
Regarding shows, you are welcome to bring your own horse. However, IHSA format requires that all horses are put in to a drawing hat, and riders randomly select the horse they will ride. Therefore, there is no guarantee you will ride your own horse, and other people may ride your horse as well. IHSA prohibits riders from using their own tack if your own horse is not drawn; you must use the tack provided. |
Are meetings mandatory?
|
Yes, all meetings are mandatory unless otherwise noted. Certain club memberships require meeting attendance in order to obtain the benefits (i.e. funding).
However, we're all busy students, and life happens! If a conflict comes up, let any club officer know as soon as possible that you won't be able to attend, so that we know to forward you any important information! |
